In Search of A Tree's Third Lease of Life
"The fall of a tree marks the beginning of its next phase in life." This is our faith, our belief. Wood is used to make objects that fulfill the needs in our daily lives. For some objects, once they have accomplished their mission, their meaning is lost, and with it, the value of their existence. We hope to give these trees a third lease of life through our design.
In the past, META has created products with recycled materials such as wooden pallets, wooden boxes, and wooden window frames. This year, we are collaborating with TPCreative for the first time to produce a special edition Whims E010 lamp using wood crossarms from Taiwan Power Company (Taipower), which were used to hold up power lines for power transmission but are currently no longer in use. By bringing together these "retired" materials and META's classic bedside reading lamp, the wood gains a new lease of life and returns to our daily lives in a new form.
In Taipower's material management system, every component is given an item number. The material used in this lamp is from wood crossarms, which has an item number of "E010". By incorporating the "E010" item number into the name of the lamp, we are giving consumers the option to search for more information on "E010" wood crossarms to learn more about materials used in power transmission and understand the role that power transmission equipment plays in our day-to-day lives.
The fall of a tree marks the beginning of its next phase in life. META's objective is to realize a third lease of life for these trees so as to maximize the value of their wood. This is the least that we can do as human beings, we who ceaselessly deplete the earth's resources. Our encounter with Taipower on this journey gives us faith that we can keep going. At the same time, we look forward to having more people supporting us and joining us in this cause.
