From the old window lamps in the Central Library, to the Whims E010 lamps made of retired wooden crossarms produced in collaboration with the Taiwan Power Company, plus as previously reported, the limited edition “eslite Dunnan Re:Generation 1989-2020” desk lamps made with waste products from the dismantling of the eslite Dunnan store… In recent years, it is as if we have become the recycling centre of the design industry. Wherever there are unwanted things, that is where we are headed. We utilize materials that appear to be useless and reduce the usage of new resources. We strive to find value in the items that are about to be thrown away.
Recently, we have launched a new project titled “The META Jobsite Project”, where we venture deep into construction sites to find waste items or materials with the potential for new possibilities. Considering how humans have reaped the Earth for the resources that we need, it is only right that we make the most out of these materials.
Mother Earth can really be regarded as a maternal figure to all of us; we take her for granted by asking for too much, yet are too overwhelmed to give back. As we grow bigger and stronger by the day, does it also occur to us that she is gradually withering and needs some care and help too? As we grow with experience, we should know to shift our focus from ourselves to others. By acknowledging the importance of our families, learning to appreciate simplicity, and knowing how to enjoy peace- these are the things that we should do, and indeed, the things that we will do.
